Cellulitis is an infection of the deeper layers of skin and below the skin. It can be serious if not treated quickly.


Cellulitis causes an area of skin to suddenly become:

Red, hot, swollen, painful and tender.

Severe symptoms include: Fever, vomiting, feeling unwell and confusion in some cases.


Antibiotics are usually needed for the management of cellulitis, in severe cases, you might need an intravenous form of the antibiotics.

Pain medications and anti-sickness medications could also help.

You might need to be referred to the medical specialist for further treatment if needed.
